'99' is a refreshingly delightful film. The director duo of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K did a good job in
coming up with a fresh script and also presented it well. Comedy is situational and really good. Rajeev
Ravi's cinematography is eye-catching. Dialogues are
well penned. Cheragh Todiwala's editing is perfect.
Story:
'99' is set in the year 1999. It's about two crooks Sachin ( Kunal Khemu ) and Zaramud ( Cyrus Broacha
). They make fake SIM cards and get pulled into a bigger mess when they steal and crash a gangster’s
Mercedes while running away from cops. They end up working for ganglord AGM ( Mahesh Manjrekar ),
who is a bookie and has a long list of people to recover his money from. In the list is Rahul ( Boman
Irani ), a gambling addict. The lead duo are assigned to recover money from Rahul by AGM. What
happens next is a roller coaster ride. There is also romance sequence between Sachin and Pooja (
Soha Ali Khan ). What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Kunal Khemu steals the show. He delivered an excellent performance. He keeps us hooked to the film
even though at times the movie lacks pace. Cyrus Broacha is apt and suited his character. Mahesh
Manjrekar is his usual. Boman Irani is perfect as an employee of Forex company who is addicted to
gambling. Soha Ali Khan looks cute and did a good job. Vinod Khanna's cameo role as a cricket match
fixer is impactful.
Music:
Music is good and Songs are catchy and pleasant.
Verdict:
To sum up '99' is a good entertaining movie to watch. It will keep you hooked through out with it's
refreshing storyline and good starcast. '99' can be rated as an above average movie.
